2014 Burton Blue Oval Saloon Car Champion Olly Allen got his title defence off to the best possible start with victory in the season opening two races.
Running in a combined field including slick-shod BritCar VW Beetles and V6 Corrado’s Olly drove a blinding race to beat all opposition by 11 seconds in his 2l Ford Fiesta, following up his race 1 class win and second place overall.
“As I won the championship last year, I want to defend my title so I did a lot of work on the car over the winter, including fitting the new Titan throttle body” explains Olly. “I was talking to Nick at Titan and he kept telling me how good the new throttle bodies were. So I got one, and I have to say, he wasn’t kidding; I’ve now got probably the most powerful engine out there and it runs beautifully.”
The Damico built Silvertop Zetec engine fitted in Olly’s Fiesta now produces an impressive 265 BHP and revs up to 9000 RPM.
“The car ran great, and to beat the rest of the field by 11 seconds was fantastic. Not bad for a little car on road tyres against some of these big guys on slicks!”
Since Olly started racing in 2000 he has won the Ford Saloon Car Championship three times in 2005, 2007 and 2008 as well as the 2014 Blue Oval Saloon Car Championship.
Olly, who owns and operates ORA Motor Services, learned his craft at an early age from his racing dad, who competed in the Slick 50 road saloon championship. Olly has been an A grade driving instructor and coach for 11 years, having coached Kevin Magnussen among many others.
