Titan will be showcasing two specific projects at Subcon 2014 held at NEC in Birmingham, UK June 3-5, to demonstrate its world-class design and manufacturing capabilities.
The open-top car features a hybrid carbon/aluminium monocoque, a mid-mounted 200 BHP Ford GDI engine and double wishbone suspension front and rear. As the ethos of the Zenos E10 is all about driving excellence, Zenos opted to go for a bespoke upright rather than relying on a standard donor part and Titan were brought in to design and manufacture this crucial component.
Following the initial meeting to discuss the requirements of the suspension geometry, Titan designers worked together with Zenos engineers to create the deisgns. All designs were created to be suitable for production from the outset, saving time and money. Following the successful supply and testing of the prototype, Titan and Zenos are now developing further design updates.
The Bloodhound SSC project, which has a target to reach 1000 mph for the world land speed record attempt, approached Titan to produce the steering rack for their challenger.
The unique load requirements, packaging constraints and harsh environmental conditions presented significant challenges which Titan was able to overcome through deploying a highly effective design collaboration with the Bloodhound engineers.
Detailed finite element analysis was utilised to design the housing, rack bar and bracket to ensure all components were able to cope with the extreme load requirements. Titan designers overcame the packaging challenge by designing the pick up points of the track rods to be inboard of the rack bar and forward of one of the bulkheads. Lastly, considerable time and effort was spent on sealing off the components to ensure sufficient protection from dust and water.
Both projects will be shown at the show and Titan staff will be on hand to discuss these, and other high performance engineering projects.
