Trainee Finance Manager

As a Trainee Finance Manager, you’ll be at the start of an exciting journey to become a trusted financial leader. You’ll work closely with our Chief Finance Officer and wider team to learn the full spectrum of financial operations — from day-to-day transactions to strategic planning. Your work will directly contribute to keeping our organisation financially healthy, supporting decision-making, and ensuring we can continue to deliver on our mission.
Activities
Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
Assist in monitoring cash flow, analysing variances, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Learn to manage payroll processes and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
Help maintain accurate financial records using accounting software.
Work with department heads to track project budgets and funding allocations.
Assist in preparing reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
Gain exposure to audit preparation and year-end financial processes.
Person Specification
A genuine interest in finance and a desire to build a career in financial management.
Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis).
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication skills — able to explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance colleagues.
A proactive, curious mindset and willingness to learn.
- Ideally, some exposure to finance or accounting through study, work experience, or internships (but not essential).
